GALEN TONG
Biography
Galen Tong received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television where he was the winner of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Writing Award and the Twentieth Century Fox Screenwriting Fellowship. He has produced credits on primetime network television with CBS/Columbia Tri-Star and feature film sales to 20th Century Fox Studios. He has written feature films for Sahamongkol Films, the Southeast Asian studio that produced the hit "Ong Bak" series of motion pictures, starring Tony Jaa. He is the First Prize Winner and Grand Prize Winner of the 2013 Beijing International Screenwriting Competition, 2014 WGA Feature Access Project Honoree and winner of the 2014 CAPE New Writers Fellowship. He was a finalist in the CBS Mentoring Program and twice a finalist in the Walt Disney Studios/ABC Entertainment Writers Fellowship Program. He has written feature films for the Singapore motion picture industry and has been hired as a writer and consultant by the South Korean government.
Galen was Co-Writer and Associate Producer on the Discovery Channel documentary, “Alpha Company: Iraq Diary,” which focused on the U.S. Marines after the Battle of Fallujah. Before attending graduate school, Galen received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater and Asian Studies from UCLA. Although not an aspiring actor, he has performed as principal characters in two productions directed by David Mamet, “Redbelt” and CBS Television’s, “The Unit.”
He is a member of the Writers Guild of America, west and is an original member of the union's Asian American Writers Committee.
For several years Galen was the Director of Programming at a company at the forefront of webisode production, where he wrote and produced online branded entertainment pieces for diverse clients such as Saab, Ralph Lauren, AOL and MSN. Most recently, he was the Director of Production at Bellator, a division of Viacom, writing and producing content for their various series on Spike TV.
Currently, Galen is a freelance Writer-Producer in Los Angeles.
